2006 Potomac Festival

July 14th and 15th

 

This year the Potomac Festival had a record number of spectators and competitors. There were also old and new events from the historic Great Falls Race to the Attainment Race. For information and photos on all of the events go to Potomacfest.com

This years Great Falls race had 34 competitors who came from all over the country and the world, two came all the way from South Africa. The level on the Little Falls Gauge was 3.4 and so the race was held on the center lines. Each competitor got one preliminary run and then the top ten racers competed in the finals. Thank you to all who made this years Potomac Fest Great Falls Race such a fun and widely attended event. We would like to thank this year's Potomac Fest Steering Committee who provided framework and infrastructure to the event as well as new life and energy to the Potomac Fest and it's revamped events and focus. Thank you to Eric Jackson and Jackson Kayaks for providing the title sponsorship to the event and the cash purse, additionally for MCing the awards. Our thanks goes out to the Falls Race volunteers who staffed the event: Kristin Wood, Hollie Noble, John Munnell, Monique Hubshman, Cindy Lindsay who worked the Finish Line; Grayson Taff and AJ McIntyre, who stationed the Start Line; and our Safety Team, Jeff McIntyre, Steve Graybill, John Boylan, Middy Thilgman, Chuck Morris of Wavesport. We would like to thank the ''injured safety/photo duo'' of Jimmy Blakeney and Bryon Door, we look forward to seeing you both race next time. Clay Deming, Ted Bradley, and Paul Harrison provided additional support and photography. Thank you all for your time, focus, adaptability, and for baking in the sun. Thank you all to the athletes who all demonstrated sportsmanship, fellowship, and a competitive spirit to the event. You all inspired and awed many onlookers. Finally a special thanks goes out to Bob Podolak, who provided a running commentary for the event, and to Fern Abrams and Hollie Noble who provided Bob up to date information. Together they were able to provide much information to the eager crowd of spectator's
